What our customers say

Filmed by our customers, not scripted by us.

How does silverfish control in Geelong actually work?

Silverfish live in voids rather than on floors, so treatment goes into wall cavities, cupboard backs, behind skirting, the roof space and, around here more than anywhere, the subfloor. On older stumped Geelong housing that damp, dark underfloor is usually the reservoir, and it feeds the rooms above through pipe penetrations no matter how carefully a bathroom is treated. The underlying driver is moisture, and this coast supplies plenty of it: humidity near the bay runs higher year round than in inland suburbs, and a property closed through a damp winter with no ventilation gives them an uninterrupted run. So we treat the harbourage and then tell you plainly what needs fixing, whether that is subfloor vents blocked by a garden bed or a bathroom with no working fan. Call 0436 389 114, seven days.

Subfloor, voids and the damp, all dealt with together.

Why here

Coastal humidity and older housing

Silverfish are more common around Geelong and the coast than in a lot of Melbourne, and the reasons are structural rather than anything to do with cleaning.

Two local conditions do most of the work.

  • Higher year round humidity. Properties near the bay and along the coast sit in damper air, and silverfish depend on moisture to survive.
  • Open subfloors. Older stumped housing leaves a damp, dark, undisturbed space directly beneath the rooms, which is close to a perfect reservoir.
  • Properties closed for a season. No airflow through a damp winter lets a population build with nobody noticing.
  • Blocked vents. Garden beds, paving and stored materials against the wall stop the subfloor drying out, which is one of the most common and most fixable causes.

What is included

Silverfish Control Geelong: what the job covers

They live in the voids and follow the damp, so that is where the work goes.

Subfloor and wall voids

On stumped housing the damp underfloor is the reservoir, and it feeds the rooms above no matter how well the bathroom is treated.

Roof space and insulation

Paper faced insulation and stored cardboard give them food and shelter in one place.

Humid rooms and cupboard backs

Bathrooms, laundries and linen presses, treated into the voids rather than across the floor.

Stored paper and books

Boxes, documents and books in a wardrobe, shed or roof space, which is where the damage that upsets people happens.

Coastal damp assessed

Humidity near the bay is higher year round, so ventilation and subfloor drainage matter more here than anywhere.

A written report

Where they were, what was treated, and which damp problem needs fixing.

Subfloor, roof and voids, all treated in one booking.

Stored belongings

Protecting stored paper, books and boxes in a Geelong property

The damage that actually upsets people is rarely the insects themselves. It is what they have been quietly eating.

Silverfish feed on starch and cellulose, so a box of documents, a shelf of books, old photographs or cardboard storage in a shed or roof space is food as well as shelter. In a property that sits closed for months, that goes on undisturbed for a whole season.

Treating the space matters, but so does how things are stored. Sealed plastic containers instead of cardboard, up off a damp floor, in a ventilated space, prevents far more damage than any repeat treatment.

  • Move stored paper out of cardboard and into sealed containers.
  • Keep boxes off a damp subfloor or shed floor.
  • Photographs and documents are the most commonly regretted loss.
  • Ventilate stored spaces when the property is opened up.

Cost

Silverfish control cost in Geelong

The number follows how much of the building needs treating rather than how many insects you have seen.

You get it before we travel, based on what you describe, and it does not change once we are there.

  • Property size. How many rooms and how much void there is to reach.
  • Roof and subfloor. Whether those need including, which on an older house they usually do.
  • How long it has run. A long established population means more harbourage to treat.
  • Access. Tight roof spaces and low subfloors take longer to work in.

Questions

Silverfish questions, answered

Why are silverfish worse near the coast?
Humidity. Silverfish need moisture, and properties around Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast sit in higher year round humidity than inland suburbs. Add an older house with an open subfloor and limited ventilation and you have ideal conditions without anyone doing anything wrong.
Does a subfloor make it worse?
On older stumped housing it is usually the reservoir. The underfloor stays damp, dark and undisturbed, and silverfish move up into the rooms through pipe penetrations and wall cavities. Treating the bathroom on a house like that while ignoring what is under the floor is why the problem returns.
They have eaten through boxes in the shed.
Typical. They feed on starch and cellulose, so cardboard, paper, book bindings and photographs are all food. A shed or roof space with stored boxes and a bit of damp is both shelter and dinner, which is why the damage is usually discovered long after it started.
We only find them when we open the house up.
A property closed through a damp winter with no ventilation is exactly what they want. Nothing dries out, nothing is disturbed, and the population builds quietly. Opening up and airing the place is genuinely part of the answer, not just the treatment.
Are they harmful to us or the kids?
No. They do not bite, do not carry disease and pose no health risk. It is a damage and nuisance problem rather than a safety one, and we would rather say that than overstate it.
Will treating fix it permanently?
The treatment deals with the population. Whether it stays fixed depends on the moisture, and that is the honest answer. Sort out subfloor ventilation, a leaking shower or an unvented bathroom and it tends to stay gone. Leave the damp and you are buying a repeat treatment.
What does silverfish control cost around Geelong?
It depends on the property, how many areas are involved and whether the subfloor and roof space need doing. One fixed price before we travel.
