What our customers say

Filmed by our customers, not scripted by us.

How does moth control in Geelong actually work?

The moths you can see are not what is causing the damage. Adult clothes and carpet moths do not feed at all, so the whole job is finding the larvae and treating where they are. They want dark and undisturbed, and around Geelong that points at a very specific place: stored woollens. A blanket box, a linen press or a wardrobe full of wool in a property that sits closed for months is close to ideal, because nothing is moved, aired or disturbed for a whole season. The other half of the local picture is wool carpet and rugs, where damage shows at the edges and under furniture rather than in a walkway. Pantry moths are a separate problem entirely, treated by removal and cleaning with nothing residual near food. Call 0436 389 114, seven days.

Stored woollens or carpet, we will find the larvae.

Where larvae feed

Dark, undisturbed and full of wool

Moth larvae need three things, and a lot of Geelong and coastal properties supply all three without anyone intending to.

Understanding that is usually enough to stop it happening again.

  • Wool or keratin to eat. Blankets, jumpers, wool carpet, rugs, felt. Anything natural and animal based.
  • Darkness. A closed blanket box, a linen press, the underside of a rug or the carpet edge behind a wardrobe.
  • To be left alone. This is the one that matters most here. A house nobody opens for months provides it perfectly.
  • Traces of food or perspiration make stored clothing far more attractive, which is why unwashed items take the worst damage.

What is included

Moth Control Geelong: what the job covers

The work goes where larvae feed, which is almost never where the moths are flying.

Identifying which moth

Carpet and clothes moths eat wool and keratin. Pantry moths eat dry goods. The treatments have almost nothing in common.

Wool carpet, rugs and underlay

The edges, the gripper line and the underlay, which is where larvae feed without ever being seen.

Stored woollens and blankets

Blanket boxes, linen presses and wardrobes in properties that sit closed for months are the classic Geelong version of this job.

Under furniture that never moves

Beneath beds, wardrobes and heavy furniture, which is exactly the dark, undisturbed condition larvae need.

Pantry moths handled separately

Dry goods, shelving and cupboard voids, cleaned and treated without anything residual going near food.

A written report

Species, where the feeding was, and what to change so the next season does not start the same way.

Stored items, carpet and pantry, all assessed in one visit.

Stored woollens

Moth treatment for Geelong blanket boxes, linen presses and holiday houses

The classic version of this job around here is not carpet at all. It is a blanket box opened at the start of a season.

Wool blankets, spare doonas, jumpers and rugs go into storage clean enough to look after, the house is locked up, and nothing is touched for months. That is exactly the condition larvae need, and there is nobody present to notice the first signs.

The fix is as much about storage as treatment. We treat the space and the affected items, and tell you plainly how to store woollens so the same box is not a problem next season.

  • Store woollens clean, because perspiration and food traces attract larvae more than wool alone.
  • Sealed containers rather than a lidded box that still breathes.
  • Air and check stored items when the property is opened up.
  • Freeze anything suspect in a sealed bag for a week before it goes back into storage.

Cost

Moth control cost in Geelong

Moth jobs vary because a single affected wardrobe and wool carpet through four rooms are very different pieces of work.

You get the number before we travel, based on what you describe, and it does not change once we are there.

  • The area affected. One wardrobe, or carpet through several rooms.
  • Which moth. A pantry problem is mostly removal and cleaning. Carpet moths need more treatment.
  • How long it has run. A season of feeding means more larvae and usually a follow up.
  • Access. Furniture that has to come out and carpet edges that have to be reached take time.

Get your own number, not a range. Quotes are free and fixed.

Questions

Moth control questions, answered

How do I know which kind of moth I have?
Look at where they are. Moths around a wardrobe, a linen press or the edges of a wool rug are carpet and clothes moths, and they eat wool and keratin. Moths in the pantry, or small grubs in a packet of flour, are pantry moths. They need opposite treatments, so this is worth getting right.
Our holiday house had moths in the blankets.
That is the most common version of this job along the coast. A linen press or blanket box full of wool, in a house nobody opens for months, is close to perfect: dark, undisturbed, and nothing gets moved or aired. By the time someone opens it the larvae have had a long uninterrupted run.
Why is the damage only at the edges of the rug?
Because that is where it is dark and nothing moves. Larvae avoid light and disturbance, so a busy walkway in the middle of a room is safe while the carpet edge under the skirting, beneath a wardrobe or under a rug that has not been lifted in years takes all the damage.
Can you treat wool rugs without wrecking them?
Yes, and it is worth saying that a good wool rug is usually saveable. Treatment is targeted at the larvae rather than saturating the pile, and for valuable pieces we will tell you plainly when specialist cleaning is the better option rather than treating it ourselves.
What should I do with affected woollens?
Hot wash what can take it. Anything that cannot goes in a sealed bag in the freezer for a week, which kills eggs and larvae without damaging the fibre. Then store it clean, because larvae are drawn to perspiration and food traces rather than to the wool alone.
Do I need to treat every season?
Not usually, if the storage changes. Most repeat jobs happen because the same blanket box or linen press goes back to being closed and untouched. Sealed storage and an airing when the property is opened up does more than repeated treatment.
What does moth control cost around Geelong?
It depends on the area affected and whether it is carpet, stored woollens or a pantry problem. You get one fixed price before we travel.
