What our customers say

Filmed by our customers, not scripted by us.

How does bird control in Geelong actually work?

The work is exclusion: closing the space rather than chasing the birds, because an open roost is reoccupied within weeks. The order matters. Clear the nests and fouling, treat the void for bird mites, then fit the mesh or netting, so nothing is sealed in and the mites do not simply move down into the building. Two things are specific to this coast. Silver gulls are native and protected, so along the foreshore the only lawful approach is making the roost unavailable, never interfering with the birds. And salt air destroys ordinary fixings, so proofing near the bay needs marine grade stainless or it works loose in a couple of seasons, which is worse than doing nothing. Start with what is lawful

Gulls, pigeons and what can be done

Around Geelong the first question is nearly always about seagulls, and the answer surprises people.

Which bird it is decides what anyone may lawfully do, so it is worth settling before work is quoted.

  • Silver gull. Native and protected. Nothing lawful involves harming them or disturbing an active nest. Netting, wire and mesh systems that remove the roost are what actually work.
  • Feral pigeon. Introduced. The usual occupant of solar cavities, shed rafters and roof voids.
  • Starling and house sparrow. Introduced, and the ones that get into eaves, vents and wall cavities, bringing mites with them.
  • Native species generally. Protected under the Wildlife Act 1975, so the lawful answer is always exclusion.

What is included

Bird Nest Removal Geelong: what the job covers

Clearing a roost is half the job. Closing it so it cannot be reoccupied is the half that lasts.

Roof, ledge and shed proofing

Mesh and netting sized to the opening, fitted so it holds in coastal wind rather than lifting in the first gale.

Marine grade hardware

Near the bay, ordinary fixings rust out fast. Stainless fittings cost more and are the only thing that lasts in salt air.

Nest and fouling removal

Nests, feathers and droppings cleared from roof spaces, gutters and shed rafters before anything is closed up.

Solar panel exclusion

Mesh clipped around the panel edge to close the cavity, without drilling panels or disturbing wiring.

Mite treatment

Once birds leave, the mites in the nest go looking for another host. The void is treated as part of the job.

A written record

Species, what was removed and what was fitted, which matters for a farm shed, a rental or a managed property.

Cleared, treated and proofed to hold in coastal wind.

Bird proofing for Geelong foreshore, sheds and farm buildings

A bird proofing job near the bay has to survive two things that an inland one does not: constant wind and constant salt.

We have seen plenty of proofing fitted with ordinary galvanised fixings that looked fine on day one and was hanging loose two seasons later. That is genuinely worse than leaving it alone, because loose netting traps birds and then you have a welfare problem as well as a pest one.

So near the coast we use marine grade stainless, we fix into structure rather than cladding, and we tension netting properly rather than stapling it and hoping.

  • Marine grade stainless fixings and clips near the bay.
  • Netting tensioned and fixed to structure, not to sheet cladding.
  • Large shed and farm building openings sized and closed properly.
  • A return visit after the first decent blow to confirm it has held.

What a booking looks like

From the call to a building that holds

No surprises, and no price that changes once we are on site.

STEP 1

Describe the building and the birds

House roof, shed, farm building or foreshore property, and whether it is gulls, pigeons or starlings.

STEP 2

We confirm the species

Introduced species can be managed directly. Native birds, including silver gulls, are protected, so the work is exclusion.

STEP 3

One fixed price, before we drive

Covering Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast, confirmed before we leave.

STEP 4

Clear, treat, then proof

Nesting material and fouling removed, mites treated, then mesh or netting fitted with marine grade fixings.

STEP 5

A check afterwards

A return visit to confirm the proofing has held through the first decent blow.

One fixed price for the whole job, confirmed before we leave.

Cost

Bird proofing cost in Geelong

Bird work is priced on access and on how much roof line or how many panels have to be closed, rather than on the birds themselves.

You get the number before we travel, and it does not change once the ladders are up.

  • Access and height. Single storey is straightforward. Multi storey, steep pitch or a commercial parapet is not.
  • How much to close. Metres of roof line, or the number of solar panels around the perimeter.
  • How much clearing. Years of accumulated nesting and fouling takes time to remove and treat.
  • Hardware. Marine grade fixings cost more and are the only sensible choice near the coast.

Questions

Bird control questions, answered

Can you do anything about seagulls on our roof?
Silver gulls are a native species and protected, so nothing lawful involves harming them or interfering with an active nest. What does work is exclusion: netting, mesh and wire systems that make the roost unavailable, plus removing the food source where we can identify it. That is the honest answer, and it is the approach that actually holds along the foreshore.
Does the salt air affect bird proofing?
A great deal. Ordinary galvanised fixings near the bay rust out within a few seasons, and proofing that comes loose is worse than none at all because it traps birds. We use marine grade stainless near the coast and tell you where the extra cost goes.
Birds are nesting in our farm shed. Can that be closed up?
Usually yes, and the trick is sequencing. Clear the nesting material and fouling first, treat the space for mites, then close the openings, so you are not sealing birds or an active nest inside. We check the whole building rather than the one gable everyone has noticed.
We have pigeons under the solar panels on the shed.
Same job as on a house, just usually higher and windier. Mesh clips around the panel edge to close the cavity, fitted without drilling the panels. We clear and treat the cavity before closing it, because sealing a nest in is how you end up with a smell and a mite problem.
What about droppings on water tanks and collection roofs?
Worth dealing with promptly on any property collecting roof water. We clear the fouling, treat the area and proof the roosting points so it does not rebuild over the season.
How quickly can you get out here?
Usually the same day where a slot is open, across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast. Roof work depends on wind and access and we will say so honestly. 0436 389 114.
What does bird proofing cost around Geelong?
It depends on the building, the length of roof line and the hardware. Coastal jobs cost a little more because of marine grade fixings. You get one fixed price before we travel.
