What our customers say
Filmed by our customers, not scripted by us.
How does ant control in Melbourne actually work?
The trail on your bench is not the problem, it is the evidence. A technician follows it back to the nest, which on a Melbourne block is usually in the slab edge, an expansion joint, the sand under pavers, a garden bed against the wall, or a wall void. Treatment is non repellent transfer bait placed on the active runs: workers carry it back and feed it through the colony, including the queen and the brood. That matters most with Argentine ants, which form huge connected colonies with many queens, so killing the ants you can see does nothing at all. It is also why a supermarket spray usually makes things worse: it repels, the colony splits, and the trails reappear somewhere else in the house a week later. Call 0436 389 114, seven days.
Baited back to the nest, not sprayed off the bench.
Which ant is on your bench?
Melbourne has a handful of ants that come indoors, and the treatment is not the same for each.
What they are after tells us as much as what they look like, so it is worth noticing before anyone comes out.
- Argentine ants. Small, uniform light brown, in long steady trails. Many queens and connected colonies, so this one needs baiting rather than spraying. Very common across suburban Melbourne.
- Black house ants. Shiny black, all over the kitchen, after anything sweet. Usually nesting in paving, the slab edge or a garden bed close to the house.
- Carpenter ants. Large, and nesting inside damp timber rather than eating it. Finding them often means finding a moisture problem as well.
- Not sure? Photograph the trail when you call and we will narrow it down.

Send a photo of the trail and we will identify it.
Ant Control Melbourne: what the job covers
The aim is the colony, not the workers on the bench. Everything below is pointed at the nest.
Following the trail to the nest
The line of ants on your bench is a supply route. We follow it back to where the colony actually lives, because that is the only thing worth treating.
Non repellent transfer bait
Workers carry it back and feed it through the colony, including the queen and the brood you never see. That is what ends it rather than pausing it.
Treating the slab edge and paving
Expansion joints, paver sand, garden edging and the gap where the path meets the house. Most suburban nests sit in exactly these places.
Indoor trails handled properly
Bait placed on the run rather than a spray across the bench. Spraying a trail kills the workers and teaches the colony to route around you.
Moisture and timber checked
Ants nesting in damp timber or wall voids are a different problem, and one worth knowing about before it becomes a building repair.
A written report
Species, where the nest was, what we used, and what is drawing them in. Useful for a landlord or an agent.
Nest treated, trails baited, one fixed price.

Why spraying an ant trail makes an ant infestation worse
If you take one thing from this page, take this one, because it is the reason so many ant jobs get repeated.
Most retail ant sprays are repellent. They kill the workers on the surface, which looks like success for a day, and they signal to the colony that the route is dangerous. The colony responds by splitting and opening new trails somewhere else in the building.
A non repellent bait does the opposite. The ants do not detect it, they keep using the same route, and they carry it home to the queen and the brood. It is slower for a day and then it is finished rather than moved.
- Repellent sprays scatter a colony, they do not remove it.
- Argentine ant colonies have many queens, so the visible workers are not the population.
- Bait needs the trail intact, which is why we ask you to leave it alone once the job is booked.
- If you have already sprayed, just say so and we will place around it.
Already tried the supermarket spray? Tell us, and we will work around it.
From the trail to an empty bench
No surprises, and no price that changes once we are on site.
Tell us where the trail runs
Where they come in, where they go, and what they are after. Sweet, greasy or protein tells us which bait to use.
We trace the nest
Along the skirting, out through the weep hole, under the paver. The nest is the job, the trail is only the evidence.
Fixed price before we travel
Quoted on the property and what you describe, and it does not change on the day.
Bait and treat the harbourage
Transfer bait on the runs, treatment to the slab edge, paving and the nest sites we have found.
Give it time, then check
Trails usually stop within a week as the bait moves through the colony. We follow up rather than leaving you guessing.
Every step above runs on a fixed price, quoted before we travel.
Ant control cost in Melbourne
Ant jobs vary more than people expect, because one trail from a garden bed and a colony spread through a whole block are different problems.
What does not vary is the way we quote it. You get the number before we travel, based on what you describe, and it does not change on the day.
- Species. A single nest colony is simpler than an Argentine ant population with many queens.
- Where the nest is. A garden bed is easy, a wall void or a subfloor takes longer to reach.
- How much area. Paving, paths and outdoor areas add surface that has to be treated.
- Whether it has been sprayed. A scattered colony needs more placements to bring back together.
